BACKGROUND AND HISTORY

The idea of Christian service through the sport of running originated in November 2005 by Race Director Kevin Shaffer.  Kevin was in the midst of training for his 1st marathon, but was suffering from debilitating shin splits.  This pain of this injury was slowly extinguishing Kevin’s passion for running.  In a desperate move for relief, Kevin turned to God shortly before Thanksgiving 2005 and prayed for the Lord to heal his shin splits.  Kevin committed to God that in turn he would find a way to take this gift of running to help others.

A few weeks later, Kevin and his wife Katie flew to Kansas for Thanksgiving with Katie’s family.  Kevin laced up his shoes for an early morning run down the roads of the Kansas farmlands and noticed his shin splits were gone.  And since that date, the pain never returned.  Kevin has since completed 5 marathons and also recently finished a 70.3 mile Half Ironman Triathlon.  He is now training for his 6th marathon in the Spring of 2008.

God held up His end of the bargain and now it is time for Kevin to fulfill his.
